Taking a page from Le Corbusier’s revolutionary concepts of mass urban housing, the apartments are designed ‘to cultivate the body, mind and the soul’ and to ‘provide with silence and solitude before the sun, space and greenery- a dwelling which will be a perfect receptacle for the family.’ The scale of the compositional elements seems intuitively connected to his ‘set of harmonic measures appropriate to human scale’.
Indeed the apartments are narrow, the volumes horizontally elongated- but the generous double heights ensure that they thrive on spaciousness. Designed for a contemporary lifestyle with attributes of elegance, sophistication, bold minimalism and clarity, the high end furniture modern pieces, accessories, celebrated lighting fixtures, materials, textures and colours, augmented by lavish Indian fabrics are part of the schema in which these are already in animated conversation with each other much before people enter spaces. The drawing and dining celebrate their double volumes in their individual ways through interior accents. The theme for each of the bedrooms emerges from an understanding of the temperament and inclinations of the occupants.
The design brings into this home in the historic city of lucknow, sensational modern resources and establishes a paradigm change in the approach to the typology of the basic unit of society.
